This resource is designed to make students think about the importance of school. It also allows them to participate in a formal debate so is great for developing students' communication skills. Each group within the class takes on the viewpoint of a different country and the value of education to that specific country. They will have to write a formal speech which is presented to others and use this to try to persuade people to vote the same way as them. This is a fantastic resource for developing a child's literacy skills but at the same time, the subject matter allows students to understand how important an education is and how access to education varies around the world.
To follow on from this, students could investigate more into the case studies they have been provided with. They could look at the reasons why not all children across the world have the same access to education as children here in the UK. Students that have participated in the debate could do a presentation in assembly to the rest of the school about what they have learnt and the all important results of their vote!
