Foundation Governors

Foundation Governors are charged with bringing a Christian perspective to the life and work of the school and represent the Church's first line of support for it. It is important that all Governors are well informed about their role and responsibilities.

Guidance and training are available from the Methodist Church and the Local Authority.

For further information please contact the Methodist Schools team on admin@methodistschools.org.uk.

SIAMS Inspections

Methodist Appendix to SIAMS - 2018

SIAMS (Statutory Inspections of Anglican and Methodist Schools) assess the Christian character of a church school.

MAST offers ethos support and guidance to maintained schools seeking to promote their ethos and vision in line with SIAMS guidelines. MAST organises inspections for all Methodist only schools and several Methodist joint schools.

Please contact Sandra Commins (scommins@methodistschools.org.uk) for information about SIAMS inspections.

SIAMS reports for Methodist maintained schools are available to view and download here

MAST Admissions Statement and Guiding Principles

Methodist Maintained Schools:

  • are places which recognise that all human beings are made in God’s image and every person is valued equally;
  • are Christian schools, founded upon the ethos and values of the Methodist church and openly welcome all, regardless of their social circumstances, religious affiliation or personal belief - were first established to meet the needs of the poor within the local community;
  • are ‘community’ schools in the fullest sense of that word; seeking to fulfil God’s mission to the world through the education they provide;
  • are invitational – all are welcome and all are freely invited to walk through the ‘door of belonging’;
  • are one part of the Methodist church’s social responsibility; contributing to the common good.

Draft admission policies from Methodist Voluntary Aided schools and Academies should be forwarded to
Sandra Commins (scommins@methodistschools.org.uk).
